The artist has given the complete sum of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.
The star was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his third album People Watching was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.
Fender has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.
"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."
Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.
In the last year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.
Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.
These funds helped spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.
Some locations received financial assistance in modernizing facilities and gear that helped artists and audiences.
"The concept that funds from concerts in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just common sense," the star has stated.
Fender is not the first artist to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to worthy causes.
In the band received the award in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker declared that the group would give their prize money to the charity War Child.
During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite split her bounty among multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.
"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told the media.
In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.
Additionally winners that year M People donated their award to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.
"Receiving the award was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our success affected somebody else's life."
Last week, the MVT revealed it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.
One venue in the city and the other in that location were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by a national body and music fans who purchase "ownership units" in the venues.
