Two Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

This incident resulted in the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area.

Two more people are now in custody related to a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by what is thought to be pepper spray, as stated by police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.

The arrests follow a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the incident, two women were robbed of their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.

A toddler aged three was among the those hurt during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later discharged.

Police detained a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault close to the scene. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.

Authorities were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals injured by an irritating chemical believed to be pepper spray.

The attack - an event that police said was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - caused train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility for a short time.
